The data suggests that 2nd grade students at EPJ are weak in the standard of measuring in math.
Define the factors involved in your area of focus
(e.g. curriculum, class, student outcomes, instructional strategies).
What are the factors- the subject, class, grade level, students, etc.? Subject: Math
Class: Mrs. Shanks' class
Grade level: Second grade
Students: 15 students
Student outcomes: Student achievement increased by 5.6 %.
Instructional strategies: Hands-on learning, use of Smartboard, estimation, comparing, learning groups, homework and practice.
Develop research questions.
How can I increase student achievement in the area of measuring?
Describe the intervention/innovation to be implemented
Students will use interactive sites from the portaportal I established and will use the Smartboard to show how to correctly measure the length of objects.
Develop a timeline for implementation.
1. Check out Smartboard and Senteos from ESA office.
2. Go to Achievement Series and find test questions to match Standard 2M.M.6.
3. Create Senteo posttest and pretest.
4. Administer pretest to students not only in my section, but all three EPJ second grades.
5. Use Smartboard to enhance measurement unit.
6. Teach unit using district curriculum, CGI and 21st century skills.
7. Administer posttest to all three sections of second graders.
8. Evaluate results to see if student achievement increases.
Describe stakeholders.
The students, principal, other 2nd grade teachers, ESA2 employees, the district technology coordinator and myself are involved with making this project a success.
Develop a list of resources to implement the plan.

Describe the data to be collected.
I administered a pretest on the Senteo with a series of questions from the Achievement Series. After teaching the unit, I evaluated by giving a posttest on the Senteos with the same types of questions. Student achievement increased by 5.6 %. This makes the project a success.
Develop a data collection plan.
Describe your plan.
I used the Senteos to administer the posttest. The data was collected through the Senteo software and displayed in an Excel file.
Develop an analysis plan.
Describe how you will look at your data and draw conclusions from it.
I studied the data by looking at the class as a whole and each individual student. I assigned each student a number in the Senteo and could compare their results individually as well as for the entire class. Two students were absent the day of the posttest so that is the reason for the discrepancy in the number of students from the pretest to the posttest.
Carry out the plan.
Report the results.
My results were positive showing an increase in student achievement by 5.6%. Students gained a better understanding of measuring length, capacity, weight and temperature.
